Fair Isle Hat

Learn to knit a Fair Isle hat with Kate using "Katie's Kep" by Wilma Malcolmson.
Beginning with a first session on color theory during which you will pick out your five shades of Jamieson’s of Shetland yarn, you will have a total of 5 sessions to learn the skills to knit a multicolored fair isle hat. 

Skills Needed Before Class: You need to be comfortable doing all of the following.

  •        Knitting and purling
  •        Knitting in the round on a fixed circular needle
  •        Regular small circumference circular knitting (either double pointed needles or magic loop)

 

Skills Taught:

  •        Color theory including understanding color values
  •        Reading colorwork charts
  •        Corrugated ribbing
  •        Managing two yarns at the same time
  •        Keeping consistent tension and managing floats
  •        Maintaining color dominance
  •        Working in ends as you knit
  •        Small circumference stranded colorwork
  •        Finishing 

 

No supplies are needed for the first class. 
You will discuss colors and gauge and then pick out your colors.  

Materials purchased at Lost Art for the class will receive a class discount.

Cancellations must be made 7 days prior to class start date in order to receive a refund.
Minimum of 2 students required for the class. Maximum of 8 students allowed.
This is an adult class. Please contact us if you have a child who would like to learn.
