First Fair Isle
Knit the Sunwick Cowl by Donna Smith and learn all the basic skills of stranded colorwork: reading charts, managing floats, carrying two yarns at a time and maintaining color dominance. In this 4-session class, Kate will teach you all the basics and set you up for more complicated fair isle patterns in the future!
Skills Needed:
- Very comfortable knitting and purling
- Ability to knit in the round on a fixed circular needle
Skills Taught:
- Reading colorwork charts
- Managing two yarns at the same time
- Maintaining consistent tension and managing floats
- Color dominance
Materials
- US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 16” length (if you are a very tight knitter, bring a US 6 instead)
- 2 100-gram skeins of DK/Sport weight, strongly contrasting shades of yarn (22-24 sts /4 in) – make sure it feels soft against your neck!
- The Sunwick Cowl pattern (can be purchased at Lost Art or directly from Ravelry)
Other materials purchased at Lost Art for the class will receive a class discount.
