The Baby Surprise Jacket

A beloved children’s sweater pattern, the Baby Surprise Jacket was first published in 1968 but has never gone out of style. Knit flat in garter stitch, with ingeniously placed increases and decreases, this sweater looks nothing like a sweater while you knit it. But, with a flip, fold and short seam, becomes an adorable, versatile and well-fitting garment. The pattern can be knit in several gauges (from 4-6 stitches per inch) and is a great way to use up leftover yarn (especially because it is great in multiple colors).
This class is for advanced beginners or intermediate knitters. In this class you will practice paired increases and decreases for shaping and learn to pick up and knit along a garter stitch edge. For more adventurous knitters, you can also learn how to add an after-thought pocket, a hood, a collar, an applied I-cord edge, I-cord bind-off or add length to the sleeves (as the wearer grows).
For this class, we will knit the Baby Jacket, but your pattern includes instructions for all sizes, including adult. Hopefully, you will use this pattern many, many times, as Kate has!

- Comfortable knitting

Supplies Needed
- 400-500 yards of a dk or 6 ply yarn, in multiple colors or self-striping
- 24" circular needle (can be longer) in the size recommended on your yarn label (likely a US 4-6)
- Stitch markers
- 3-5 buttons
- Yarn needle
- Row counter (optional)
Cost is $60.00 for all 5 classes and includes the pattern.
Please have yarn wound into a ball, if needed, prior to class start time.

Cancellations must be made 7 days prior to class start date in order to receive a refund. Minimum of 2 students required for the class. Maximum of 6 students allowed. This is an adult knitting class. Please inquire if you have a child interested in knitting or crocheting.
